Topic 1: A case study-based examination of mentoring in the NHS
Newcomers to the profession, whether at the nursing or clinical levels, are generally mentored by more experienced colleagues. This is done to ensure best practices are followed and incorporate them into the culture of the organization and institution in issue. This Nursing dissertation records the experiences of five students at three hospitals in the southwest of England, using approved NHS mentoring practices as the literature framework. It documents their original mentoring expectations, experiences during the mentoring sessions and subsequent appraisal of the process. A number of recommendations to increase the quality of mentoring are made as a result of this study.
