Investigating Research Problems On Organizational Data Warehouse And Its Security

Abstract

In business, information technology plays a critical role. It includes labour costs, product costs, marketing, service, and increasing productivity. Organizations require enormous quantities of information from the macro to the international levels to give high-quality service. A data warehouse is required for commercial enterprises to systematically collect and analyze this massive amount of information. In this research, we will explore, analyze, and assess the impact of data warehouses (DW) on businesses. We also highlight its security concerns.

During the research problem, we will examine data warehouse operational layers such as the source, ETL, and Analysis layers, as well as their implementations and security concerns. Analyze several corporate data warehouse examples, conduct interviews with management, developers, and researchers, and determine the impact of data warehouses on their company.

Chapter 1. Introduction

Mankind has long struggled with the unexplainable, unsure, and unknown. Humans are inherently interested and inquisitive. They like exploring the unknown world around them and questionable and inexplicable workings and strange occurrences. Men have employed several strategies or approaches to build visual comprehension of events, experiences, and situations in their near and distant environments. Human beings employ a variety of inquiry strategies during their problem-identification process.

However, as science progressed, humans grew more organized and methodical in finding explanations and answers to unknown questions, future planning, future difficulties, and so on. As a result, corporate organizations systematically save all necessary information on computer disks, which we refer to as a database. Databases and database theory have long been used throughout the globe. Early database versions revolved around a single database serving every purpose, from transaction to batch processing to analytical processing (Inmon, 2005 p-19); however, keeping all information in a single database is no longer practical. As a result, corporations employ various databases to run their operations. Some databases are used for everyday operations, while others are exclusively for business analysis. Data warehouses are databases used to store historical data to assess the company. Data warehouses serve a significant function in modern business.

1.1 The reason for selecting this topic

As we all know, human nature changes every day, but due to globalization, it is evolving quickly, which means that people's culture, diet, and way of life are changing regularly. External factors, such as economic hardship and starvation, also push individuals to modify their lifestyles. As a result, to establish themselves in this competitive market, the organization's business plan must be changed regularly. They will confront significant business and technological challenges in the near future. As a result, firms must expand their IT capabilities to improve their performance.

Almost all modern firms create their databases to improve organizational effectiveness. They are anxious to acquire information from the public in any way possible, and firms ranging from retail to banking compete to provide customers with reward points and collect important Computer Science & Information Technology. Most of the time, customers are unaware that someone is collecting information about them. Some businesses buy from another company.

IBM introduced data warehouses in the late 1980s, and today's businesses cannot function without them (Schroeck, 2000). Data warehouses are only available to large organizations; small and medium-sized businesses have yet to reap the benefits of data warehouses due to the high costs of development, operations, and security. Because of the global crisis, small and medium-sized businesses are fighting to survive and cannot afford to construct a components data warehouse. As a result, I believe conducting further studies on data warehouse architecture is critical to simplify their design and cost so that everyone may profit from them. In the current circumstances, data warehouse security is a significant concern. Because information is the key to success, every company makes every effort to obtain it.

In recent years, organizations such as Sony, the NHS, and the Department of Work and Pensions have lost massive amounts of data due to security breaches. As ensuring data warehouse security is critical, I must place special attention in my study on data warehouse security.

1.2 Research Question

The major emphasis of the problem identification research may be found by asking and answering some questions. A research question is critical for determining the goals and objectives of a study. The primary PhD by research question is:

  • What are the most critical aspects of a data warehouse's influence on a business?
  • What efforts must be taken to safeguard the data warehouse?

  • 1.3 Objectives and Purpose of the Research

    Purpose

This research aims to improve the organization's performance using a modern Information Technology data warehouse and ensure its security.

    Objective

The following goals help to complete the research:

  • Data warehouse's function.
  • Design and Executions
  • Security Concerns
  • Recommendations and Conclusion
  • 1.4 Resources and Techniques for Data Collection and Communications

    Books, journal articles, electronic documents

    1. Interviewing data warehouse users, developers, researcher
    2. Organizational Case study
